Latte Dock v0.10~ | Floating Docks And Panels

Latte Dock v0.10~ is the development version of Latte which is going to end next summer as v0.10... Until then of course you can still enjoy it by building it yourself from Phabricator KDE or by searching in your distro repos if it is already built daily.

In that version one major new feature has landed, as the title says you can welcome Floating Docks and Panels!

What Are Floating Docks And Panels?

In general Floating Docks And Panels can have a margin from the screen edge in order to alter your desktop environment aesthetics. A very important aspect is also how they behave with the screen gap that is created. By default Latte is trying to follow Fitt's Law at all cases, meaning that the gap is used from applets/tasks in order to provide a smoother experience; for those cases that is not applied by default, the user can choose to enforce it from Behavior settings.

Two New Visibility Modes
Windows Can Cover
Windows Always Cover

  • Windows Can Cover : all familiar from Plasma panels, in this mode the panel is not hidden but rather goes behind all windows until is hovered again with mouse.
  • Windows Always Cover : this is something new, these panels are ALWAYS behind ALL windows. An example could be a panel that organizes applets for the desktop at the screen edge without interacting with any windows above it.
